The Art of iPhone Photography

Course Description:
The best camera is the one you have with you and if you have an iPhone there is no reason to regret leaving your digital camera at home. Even professional photographers and artists are recognizing the iPhone as a useful photographic tool. In this class you will learn how to take stunning nature photographs, pleasing portraits, and many tips and techniques for great photography with your iPhone.

During this class we will be photographing all nature has to offer depending on the season, such as insects, animals, flowers, the landscape, and outdoor portraits.  We will also cover some indoor and stil life photography depending on the class and location. Please check the specific class descriptions below for their concentrations.

iPhone 5, 4, & 4S, iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPad 2nd – 4th Gen users are all welcome. iPhone 3GS Users are welcome as well, however they may have to purchase alternate apps. Please email me if for alternate app list.

Materials Provided:
Props and tools such as reflectors and a tripods will be available to share, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have them.

Materials Required For Students To Bring:
A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO USE & NAVIGATE YOUR DEVICE AND APPS IS REQUIRED!

This class is an indoor/outdoor class and we will be using each other as models, so please dress appropriately.

The follow items are useful to bring to class if you have them:
Magnifying glass (the higher quality the better)
LED flashlight
Small Mirror
White fabric (such as a pillow case or section of old sheet)

Students must provide their own iPhone or other acceptable device. iPhone 5, 4, & 4s, iPad 2nd-4th Gen, or iPod Touch 4th Gen strongly recommended. iPhone 3GS users also welcome but may need to purchase alternate apps. Please email me for alternate app list.

All devices must be up to date with the latest iOS software they are capable of. Out of date devices run the risk of having incompatibilities with the required apps. I cannot help you update your device and it should NOT be done during class. If you do not feel comfortable updating your device, please make an appointment with your nearest Apple Genius or other technical service who can guide you through the process.

There will be instruction on use of the apps, but YOU MUST download and familiarize yourself some with the required apps before class. Experimentation is encouraged. It is unfair to the other students to take time during class to assist those who have not at the very least downloaded all the apps beforehand and you will also miss valuable information while you try to download the apps during class, so please remember to download the apps before class. Don’t hesitate to write down any questions to ask during class or  email me beforehand if you run into any problems!

Required Apps Total Cost: $7.95

Tuition Fee: Since I teach through art centers and community education centers course cost varies depending on the location offering the class. Please see specific course listings below for detailed cost information.

This class is taught through The Jenkins Arboretum and will cover a variety of subjects and techniques, but will concentrait on photographing all the gardens have to offer.
